I SHIT YOU NOT

One of my favourite things is listening to AM-640 "LeafsTalk" after every Leaf game. Hosted by Andy Frost (yes, Q-107's Psychedelic Sunday Guru), it's an entertaining mix of phone callers: everything from the always thought-provoking "Mike In Buffalo" caller to some true losers who need to get a life.

After the Tuesday game, this one fellow called in and after bashing Toskala for about 3 minutes, finally told Frost that the Leafs, "..need to bring in the young guys, you know.....guys like Nigel Cadbury...".

Frost was momentarily stumped, as he asked, "....um, who was that?....Nigel Cadbury?..."

Phone-in goof went on and on with the "..we need to bring in guys like Nigel Cadbury" when suddenly the light went on in Frost's head, and he inquired, "...Nigel Cadbury?....do you mean Nazim Kadri??"

Phone-in Goof: "Yeah....whatever..."

So funny that the call was replayed the next morning on Q-107 on John Derringer's show.

In all the years I've been listening, that was the best.....NIGEL CADBURY!!!!!!!

LEAF FAN GROWS DISPONDENT

AP reports that 55 year-old Sally Schlitzenberger has had about all she can take of the Leafs' opening record thus far.
Picture above shows Sally in the doctor's office with the "final solution" to watching the hapless Leafs.
Holding the straight-edge is some unidentified Doctor who also happens to be a GM in a rotisserie league hockey pool and has a penchant for chocolate Easter bunnies.

MORE CALL-UPS FOR HELPLESS LEAFS

Boy....the Leafs sure suk right now!
I even heard on the radio that they were playing MURDER BALL during practice. Yeah....better THAT than a freakin' puck to handle....
The photo at left shows a couple of old Leaf veterans helping out a "new guy" they brought up from the ECHL last week.
Good luck, Leafs!!

Collector's Item

Here's a pic of the original artwork for EA Sports NHL 2004, featuring Dany Heatley on the cover when he was still a Thrasher.
Unfortunately, Heatley was involved in an automobile accident that killed his teammate. (bonus points if you remember the player who got killed) EA sort of freaked out over the negative publicity, and promptly pulled his photo and replaced with someone with less heat(ley) on them: Joe Sakic.
Guess EA didn't have time to pull Patrick Kane's photo from NHL 10 this year. Would have been rather appropriate to put Kane's photo on the next version of the game "Crazy Taxi". But then, I digress.....

ANNUAL AUCTION DRAFT REPRIMAND

In photo (above), Your Beloved Commish (middle) is seen reprimanding fellow ZHL GMs Stevie O (Burlington Boners) (left) and Willy Lump (Lumpy's Lions) (right) after their disastrous performance during the handling of their respective rounds during last year's Draft.

Auction Draft Approaches

Yes, sports fans!!! It's that time of year again. The Annual Auction Draft approaches.

Shown is a picture of one of the JERKY BOYZ GMs, after being outbid for a star goaltender at last year's Draft.

We hope that by now, he's gotten over it.

Ok, looks like this is going to be the place to find the latest info.

I'm going to see what I can do here, but I guess that's all we're stuck with for now.

RUMOURS SWIRL AS GM TARAS CONSIDERS NAME CHANGE

A source close to the team has informed your beloved Commish that Mr. T. Rexters, headed by General Manager Taras, is considering a name change to the team.
Apparently, the club is looking for a fresh start after a disastrous season which saw Mr. T. Rexters start and subsequently end the season 28 weeks later never having vacated the dreaded "DFL" position.
GM Taras was heard to say that the present team name was "....getting old."
Perhaps the other ZHL Teams could help GM Taras with the name change. Please post your suggestions in the Comments section.

ENUFF ALREADY!!

I promise I won't change the style/look of the blog anymore.

LIGHTEN UP, FELLOW ZHL GMS!!!

Ok, ok.....I'm not really going to pull the plug on this webpage. Deprive me of all this fun??

Look, I think we all pretty much know that we can all take a good-hearted poke at each other throughout the season. Most of it rings a little close to home (and the truth), but I hope you all take it in the context of what it is....after all, and to quote one of the other ZHL GMs....."IT'S JUST A FUKKING HOCKEY POOL!!!"

Yes.....calm down y'all!!! And yeah, it's hard to not crow when you're in the money, or fighting to get into or staying in the money. Oh, and yeah, I've been at the other end of the stick too.....not necessarily in DFL, but out of the money with months of nothing to look forward to.

I know most of the posts are bullshit and we have fun with that too. So please, when I say that Sandy is home scratching his balls, I don't really know if he IS in fact doing that....he MAY be doing that too, for all I know......

And don't we ALL delete Rick's emails? Why single Sandy out? He had the guts to admit it AND to fess up to Leafs67 (most of us thought it was LUMPY!!!). It's EASTER...a great time for confession!!!

Yup.....just a few days left in the season. I am looking forward to the cottages. I have already sequestered a few pints of Foster's Special Bitter, some CDN cold shots, and some Rickard's Red for our enjoyment. I'll bring up some of Rocco's finer "ISS NORMAL" flicks too.

Boys, it's always a pleasure and lots of fun. Keep it going......the pool is great and the GMs are great too (ok...I'm lying about that last part...).

TIGHT BATTLE BETWEEN 9TH AND 10TH SPOT

Just following up on the previous comment by leafs67 in the "ARRRGGGHH" post, who complained that only the "all star GMs" get all the press.

There apparently is a tight battle going on between 9th and 10th place. Please forgive me if the rest of you hadn't noticed.

We should vote on a trophy to commenorate this feat. Any suggestions, as usual, will be greatly valued and highly ignored.

ARRGGGGHHH!!!

Yes, so here we go with only a few games left.

Way to go JERKY BOYZ!! Backstrom with yet another shutout...too bad Luongo didn't come through tonight, but that would give you a total of 86 wins right now. Vancouver has 2 games to go, Minnesota one. Potential here for 3 more wins (6 total if shutouts!). We are probably looking at 2 more wins for a total of 88.

KACHURA'S KOOKS with another amazing performance from Lundqvist in NY. Turco not having as much luck in Dallas. 3 games to go. Maybe two more wins to go with the one already picked up this week and possibly a total of 86 wins for the year.

GOOD WILLS get a win from Vokoun, who finally played this week. Kipper losing yet another game, this time to SJ. We are all so busy watching the Leafs that no one is perhaps noticing the big fight between Colorado and Calgary. Colorado closing the game and you just KNOW it will come down to the final game Sunday night between these two clubs for the final playoff position. 3 more games for GM Commish and one victory to show. Probably 2 more wins (?) to finish with 84 for the year.

Lucky for LUMPY'S LIONS that Edmonton isn't playing Minnesota a third time (2 shutouts in a row already this week). However, they DO finish against Calgary, who will be looking for a win to knock out Colorado). Two wins from Brodeur already, but it's going to be a tough one on Sunday as NJ plays the Islanders, who might still be in it, depending on their Saturday game. I see 3 wins this week for LUMPY, for a total of 84 wins.

NEWMARKET M.L. missing out on the big Fleury win tonight. 3 more games to go.....will Detroit play Hasek or rest him? My bet is they will rest the old fuk and put Osgood in one more time, especially since Detroit has clinched the Western Division championship. Lehtonen (or is that "Let-Them-In"...thanks GM Kev!) might play once more, so GM Dave will likely finish with 80 victories.

Goalie Wins Category Prediction

12 JERKY BOYZ (88 wins) +2
11 KACHURA'S KOOKS (86 wins) -1
9.5 GOOD WILLS (84 wins) -0.5
9.5 LUMPY'S LIONS (84 wins) -0.5
8 NEWMARKET M.L. (80 wins) -

This would leave both JERKY BOYZ and NEWMARKET M.L. tied for first spot.
Tiebreaker goes to GM Dave unless JERKY BOYZ get another shutout which would rock the GAA category big time. We'll have to see!!

Also, potential for KACHURA'S KOOKS & GOOD WILLS to share 3rd-4th place honours. Tiebreak would go to KACHURA, but again, the GAA category could shift.

Whew!!! Have a great Easter guys!! Enjoy the scoreboard watching and we'll check in a bit later.

Any comments will be highly valued and greatly ignored.

PS: GM DAVE......JERKY BOYZ want to know if you've cleaned your pants out yet this week!!!

KIPPER VS. LUONGO

Big game right now as Kipper (Good Wills) takes on Luongo (Jerky Boyz).

Will be interesting to see how the last week of the season plays out. With Calgary and Colorado still battling in the West, we may see more of Kipper and that won't be good news for the other ZHL clubs.

Might see some teams rest their superstars for the upcoming playoffs, so be prepared for anything. Always great to see the stats on Tuesday with only a few days to go.

Like GM Dave says, get them brown pants out!

SEASON NEARS THE END

Yeah, quite a finish to the season.

Kipper gets the shutout AND the shootout win, and Vokoun came through for me as well. 3 wins.

JERKY BOYZ get the shutout from Backstrom and a shutout win from Luongo to keep pace.

GM Dave says it's close and he is going to wear his brown pants till the end of the season.

Please, Mr. Anonymous, spare us your usual wit. Hide behind your anonymity, you CHICKENSHIT you. You are going to give yourself away some time and the rest of us are going to lay a beatin' on ya!!!! Oh YEAHHHH>...............................

IT'S OVER

Well, I think that would just about be the end of the season for GOOD WILLS.

Luongo in net (JERKY BOYZ) and the Canucks not only beat Nashville (Vokoun - GOOD WILLS) but get the shutout despite the fact that Nashville DID finally score but the buzzer had already gone.

I know....no sympathy from the rest of the league but boy, MURPHY loves the ZHL huh?

ZHL GM "DICK OF THE YEAR" AWARDED

Yes, sportsfans.

It would seem that one of our brethren, heretofore known only as "anonymous", has been chosen as this year's ZHL GM "DICK OF THE YEAR". (see previous post - comments).

We hope that HE will run around the cottages naked with the trophy stored in a most appropriate place.

By the way, I continue to entertain REAL comments from stand-up GMs, not chickenshits who prefer to hide behind their anonymity
